In case you missed it...

Andrew did a sweet radio interview on KJR with the "Gas Man" last night before the Husky game. This is a link to the Gas Man's audio page and then if you scroll down the page you should see Andrew's name to hear the interview. http://www.kjram.com/cc-common/podcast/single_podcast.html?podcast=gas.xml

The bracelet sales went really well at the game last night! The fans were really excited about them and so we sold a couple hundred!

Also, we talked to Jim Moore and Andrew will be having his picture taken in St Lou this weekend so the PI article won't show up until next week on Monday or Tuesday. We will post a link as soon as it runs in the paper.

Kowabunga! 2 rounds complete!

I wanted to give everybody an update on how I am doing, and what has been going on the first 2 rounds of chemotherapy. I feel like I have been to the hospital more in the last 30 days then anybody would go in their whole lifetime, but I cannot complain the experience has been super so far at MD Anderson. I kind of liken it to picking the "big college" over the small college to attend. You get all the perks of a big place: technology, special programs, etc. You just have to get past the fact that there are so many people everywhere, and you can easily get lost in the large buildings and parking lots. Treatment and tests can be in different buildings or labs on different days, just depending on space. I have to say it is very nice to be able to do outpatient treatment, and get to go "home" every night after you complete your session. This helps you regroup, and get ready for the next day, and its great to eat your own food!I feel like I have handled the physical part of the treatment ok so far. The only real thing that bothers me is some abdomin pain for which I have pain meds for. The drugs have had some small side effects (constipation, mouth sores, hair loss) but for the most part I cannot complain at all, I have stayed fairly healthy and have maintained my weight(well I have lost weight in my butt and legs which isnt good for those pairs of seven jeans!) The mental part of the chemo is defenitely the hardest part for me. When you spend every single day talking about, and doing something related to cancer, it can creep into your head and make you think about alot of different things. Also when you walk thru the halls of MD Anderson, everybody there has cancer, and you see people at all stages and levels of energy. I decided very early on, that I could do one of two things: 1)Let it get me down and wonder what is going to happen to me, and all of them or 2)Smile and be positive every single day, with every single person that I come into contact with at the hospital and hopefully thats the one encounter that that they had during the day that lifted them up, even if its just a little bit. Sure I have my days of thinking in my head whats going on with my body? I wonder if this pain means this, or that. Is this chemo working? All of those things I think about, but I know one thing, I can change my own life, and other peoples with my attitude. The next step for me is on March 9th. I will be doing a full body scan. This is the first time we are going to measure if the current chemo plan is making a dent, what the tumors are doing (size, place in body, etc) and if we need to make any changes to the chemo drugs we are using. I meet with my doctor the next day to discuss the results and talk about the progress of the first two rounds. I want to thank every single person who is out there praying for me. I can feel the power of prayer lifting me up during this time. For those of you who have sent me hand written notes, cards, letters, and even some great pictures that have been drawn for me from caring children who just want to help out-I cannot tell you how much it means to me to open up a card on a daily basis from a friend, or family member. Thank you to those of you who have sent books, itunes cards, and those great musical friends of mine who have made me countless cd's to listen to. I cannot thank my family and very close friends enough for all the help with cooking, cleaning, organizing places to stay, flights and all the things that go into traveling to do treatments in another city. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world when it comes to a support group. Iknow in my heart that I am going to make it thru this, and I am so grateful to all of you for your enthusiastic, powerful support. Talk to everybody very soon!

Urgent Need for Volunteers!!

Hi all- we just got cleared to sell Andrew's bracelets at the last four remaining Husky basketball games!! There is a game this Thursday against ASU at 8pm. The game on this Saturday against Arizona starts at noon. The other two games are against Seattle U, March 3, and WSU, on March 7.

We would like to have 4-8 volunteers per game. They are providing us with a table, so we would like to get a couple people to man the table while the other volunteers walk around the pavilion getting people pumped up to buy some bracelets! PLUS- you will get free entrance to these sold out bball games! :)

Please email me ASAP if you are able to work at any of these games- it will be a really great chance to sell a lot of bracelets for Andrew!

Also, Andrew should be posting a new entry with an update on completing his second round of chemo tonight or in the morning. He is currently back home in St. Louis recuperating. For those in Seattle- check out the PI in the morning, Jim Moore has written an article about Andrew that should be printed in tomorrow's paper.

Thanks!

At the Barber

This past weekend Andrew decided to get his head shaved. Here are a few pictures of his new look:
Andrew and his good friend Daniel
Andrew and Mom on Valentines night!

Just a note about Andrew's US Bank account. At this time, if you would like to make a donation to the US Bank account, the account is under my name, Elizabeth Denton. If you ask the teller to look up The Andrew Moritz Medical Fund, they will not be able to find it. We are working on this issue and will let you know once it's figured out.
Thank you again and keep selling those bracelets. Our second batch is in, so please let us know if you need more bracelets to sell or of course if you would like to purchase one.

We're selling bracelets and YOU need one!

*andrew getting his head shaved from a friend in houston*

hi friends! how is the bracelet selling going? we have been underway for a few days now and the word on the street is that they are moving quickly! we already have ordered another batch and expect them in the next several days. if you would like to purchase a bracelet to help offset Andrew's medical costs, please leave a comment on this post or email me at ekdenton@gmail.com. the bracelets have these four words on them:

ENERGY, ATTITUDE, LEADERSHIP, BELIEF

the colors are shown above - purple, green & blue. andrew chose these words not only to help him through his battle with cancer, but he also chose them for YOU! he wants you to wear this bracelet and be inspired. he wants you to live your life to the fullest and be a leader in all that you do. he wants you to work hard and do it with a positive attitude. we all know andrew does this! growing up with andrew and being only 2 years younger than him, i can honestly say that i remember him morning after morning getting out of bed and looking in the mirror and "pumping" himself up for the day. he wants you to do this in whatever situation or life circumstance you are in. his hope is that you get excited about these bracelets and sell them to everyone you know. they apply to everyone out there!

andrew continues to be in his recovery period and is feeling really good. he is hoping to catch a basketball game in town and keep resting up before he begins his second round of chemo on tuesday february 17. please be in prayer as he begins again next week. i added some pictures to the slideshow on the sidebar from my mom's visit to houston, so be sure to check it out. here are a few to enjoy:

The Bracelets are Here!

We are pleased to announce that we are in possession of the bracelets! Get excited about them, because we are! The colors are great and the message on the bracelet that Andrew chose is inspiring. You'll have to buy one to find out what it says...

If you would like to purchase a bracelet, to help support Andrew's costs, and you live in Seattle - -- please contact Martha Moritz at moritzms@gmail.com. If you do not live in Seattle, please email me at ekdenton@gmail.com. There are several bracelet sellers out there, so I can get you in touch with the appropriate person. We anticipate they will be in high demand, so we might move to selling them online, but we will keep you posted. Thank you and TGIF!

US Bank Account is Open!

Andrew & some Seattle friends

Hello to our wonderful Andrew Moritz support team! We have an account up and running through US Bank that is accepting donations for Andrew's medical costs. If you would like to make a donation through US Bank, please stop by your local US Bank branch and inform the teller you would like to make a donation to The Andrew Moritz Medical Fund. You can also make a check out to The Andrew Moritz Medical Fund and either mail to Andrew or myself.

Andrews first week of "rest" and no chemo has been underway since last Saturday. Just a few days after the chemo ended he started to feel sick, but reports today that he feels back to 100%. Please keep praying that Andrew will remain healthy throughout this process and especially pray that he does not contract a common cold or something of the sorts when out in public. There is not much else to report other than the fact that Andrew attended his first ever Yoga class today! Again, thank you for your continued support.
